The debate about AI replacing humans isn’t ending anytime soon.
At this point, we’ve all heard the arguments.
“AI will take everyone’s jobs.”
“No, AI is just a tool.”
Maybe… Maybe not.
But in the middle of all that noise, one thing is becoming increasingly clear:
THE BAR OF COMPETENCE HAS BEEN RAISED.
I can’t confidently say whether AI will replace jobs or not.
What I do know is this:
If a significant portion of your job can be completed with a few prompts, a workflow, and a couple of AI agents, then it’s probably time to upskill, and fast.
I recently read Deep Work by Cal Newport. He tells the story of a professional who realized that much of his work could be automated through Excel macros. Instead of ignoring the threat, he leaned into it. He switched paths to programming (maybe not the best choice today 😂😂 ), but he was able to adapt and increase his value.
That’s the lesson.
Technology has always changed the nature of work. AI is simply doing it faster.
I know there’s a lot of AI slop, hype, and fluff online right now. It’s easy to look at some of the output and become complacent.
But these systems are improving.
Rapidly.
Personally, I’d rather learn how to drive the machine than sit in the back seat and hope for the best.
Whatever you do, put in the effort to become exceptionally good at it.
Learn the fundamentals.
Develop rare skills.
Build things.
Solve problems.
And remember: your career path is not written in stone.
The people who thrive in the AI era won’t necessarily be the smartest.
They’ll be the ones who keep adapting.
